….moves to boost project delivery, accountability
The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening monitoring and evaluation (M&E) to improve project delivery, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making across MDAs.
The commitment was reiterated at the 2026 Monitoring and Evaluation Stakeholders’ Forum organised by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget in Ikeja, themed “Leveraging Monitoring and Evaluation to Advance Shared Prosperity.”
The Permanent Secretary, Mrs Olayinka Ojo, said M&E is key to achieving the Lagos State Development Plan 2052 and the THEMES+ Agenda, stressing that development requires proper planning, execution, and continuous assessment to ensure real impact.
She said the forum aims to strengthen collaboration, share best practices, and improve the state’s M&E system, urging stakeholders to contribute ideas for a more accountable public service.
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Ope George, explained that M&E begins during budget preparation through community consultations and continues through project execution, with strict tracking before payments are made.
He said all projects from major infrastructure to social interventions are monitored to ensure accountability, adding that digital tools like the EKO360 App and emerging technologies are improving transparency and reporting.
Former Finance Minister, Dr Shamsuddeen Usman, called for Results-Based Management, saying government performance should be measured by real improvements in citizens’ lives, not just spending or project counts.
Community leader Alhaji Hamzat Azeez commended the state for involving residents in project planning and monitoring, saying it has strengthened ownership and sustainability of projects.
