Edo Strengthens Grassroots Security with Handover of Rebuilt Ojo-Uwelu Police Station
The Edo State Government has officially handed over the newly refurbished Ojo-Uwelu Police Station to the community through the Edo State Community and Social Development Agency (Edo-CSDA), reaffirming its commitment to grassroots security and infrastructural development.
The handover ceremony, held at the Police Station premises in Egor Local Government Area, brought together community leaders, security personnel, members of the Community Project Management Committee (CPMC), and residents, who described the project as a significant boost to community safety.
Speaking at the event, the General Manager of Edo-CSDA, Ms. Ivie Idahosa, commended the people of Ojo-Uwelu Community for their cooperation and active participation in the successful execution of the micro-project. She explained that the renovation reflects the Governor’s unwavering commitment to strengthening security infrastructure across the state.
According to her, ensuring that police officers work in a conducive environment is essential to effective policing and aligns with Governor Okpebholo’s priority of improving security structures in all communities.
Ms. Idahosa further noted that the project was delivered under the Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach adopted by Edo-CSDA. The model enables communities to identify, co-finance, and implement projects that address their most pressing needs. Under this arrangement, the Edo State Government provides 90% of the project cost, while the benefiting community contributes at least 10% in cash or kind.
“During the Participatory Rural Appraisal exercise, the Ojo-Uwelu Community selected the renovation and furnishing of the Police Station as its priority project and constituted an eight-man committee led by Mr. Musa Rasheed to oversee implementation,” she said. She praised the committee for its diligence and the timely completion of the project.
During the formal handover, the General Manager urged the community to ensure proper maintenance of the facility so it continues to serve its intended purpose. She also encouraged the establishment of a Maintenance Committee dedicated to the project’s sustainability.
In her closing remarks, Ms. Idahosa expressed appreciation to the Governor for consistently funding community development interventions across the state. She noted that Edo-CSDA’s mandate of providing basic rural amenities aligns directly with the Governor’s SHINE Agenda, which prioritizes security, infrastructure, and community development.
