The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to prosecute individuals holding fake university certificates within the country.
Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, made this known during a recent citizens and stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja on Tuesday.
Mamman emphasized the need for a robust 13-pillar roadmap to transform the education sector, stressing the importance of a reliable database to enhance skill acquisition and reduce the number of out-of-school children.
He affirmed previous remarks regarding the pursuit of Nigerians with counterfeit foreign certificates, labeling them as criminals rather than victims, and announced plans to expand scrutiny to countries like Uganda, Kenya, and Niger.
This action follows the suspension of accreditation for certificates from Benin and Togo after an undercover investigation exposed fraudulent practices in obtaining degrees from institutions in those nations.
A probe has been initiated to further investigate the matter.
