A transport businessman and Managing Director of Abiola Azeez & Sons Nigeria Limited, Alhaji Abiola Azeez (Istijabah), has charged commercial bus drivers to collect their Permanent Voter Cards ( PVCs).
Azeez made the charge on Tuesday in Lagos when addressing commercial bus drivers at a seminar organised by the company for drivers.
The transport entrepreneur said that the drivers should make use of the extension of the deadline provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), adding that their participation in the electoral process in 2023 was key to the development of the country.
He stated that it was the civic responsibility of the drivers to collect their PVCs and vote on election days, stating that era of vote not counting had gone in Nigeria politics.
While advising the drivers on their work ethics, Abiola said the drivers should avoid drinking of alcohol before and during driving, saying that such acts could lead to death of passengers.
He advised the drivers to be prudent in spending and plan for their future, saying that they should not neglect their family to suffer since they have source of income to take care of them.
Addressing the commercial bus drivers, the Deputy Controller ( Operations), Lagos Statr Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr Adegbayin Onabanjo, reeled out the offences that attract fines, saying that they were offences that could be avoided.
Onabanjo advised the commercial bus drivers not to abide by the traffic laws so as to avoid committing offences, adding that the fines the offences could attract could be used for other pressing needs.
Also, the representative of Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC), Toyin Ladipo, disclosed that there were 23 driver license collection centres in Lagos, advising the commercial bus drivers not to patronize unauthorized centres.
Ladipo said that the collection process was seamless and stress-free, advising drivers not to overspend when driving.
