The Lagos State Waterways Authority has restated its ban on night-time travel on inland waterways, cautioning residents and boat operators.
In a statement issued on Sunday, LASWA General Manager, Damilola Emmanuel, urged fun-seekers to plan their travel carefully and comply strictly with safety regulations.
“LASWA wishes to urgently remind the general public, especially fun lovers and fans of the renowned Fuji musician, Alhaji Sule Alao Malaika, planning to visit Ilashe Beach for his concert today, Sunday, January 11, 2026, that night-time travel on Lagos inland waterways remains strictly prohibited,” he said.
Emmanuel highlighted that the restriction applies to all watercraft, whether commercial or private, emphasising that daylight operations remain the safest way to navigate the state’s waterways.
“Night voyages are still banned due to significant risks, including poor visibility and navigational dangers. These measures are aimed at safeguarding lives and property on our waterways,” Emmanuel added.
The agency also advised residents to arrive early and avoid rushing to the venue, noting that delays can increase the temptation for unsafe night travel.
“Boat operators must adhere strictly to authorised operating hours, observe all safety protocols and ensure that all passengers wear life jackets at all times,” the statement noted.
Emmanuel said patrols across Lagos waterways would be intensified in the coming days, warning “Offenders will face legal consequences”.
Reaffirming LASWA’s dedication to safe water transport, Emmanuel said the agency remains committed to providing regulated and efficient services.
