The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that its ongoing electronic membership registration exercise is mandatory for all party members, describing it as a critical reform aimed at strengthening internal democracy and party discipline.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the APC said the e-registration exercise, which began on Monday, would run until the end of January, giving both existing and new members ample time to be captured in the party’s digital database.
Oladejo said the exercise reflects the party’s commitment to transparency, structure and modern political organisation, stressing that political parties that resist reform risk decline. He noted that the APC had chosen to prioritise data integrity and credible internal processes over what he described as arbitrariness and disorder.
According to the party, the digital registration process is designed to sanitise its membership register by eliminating duplication, impersonation and other irregularities that undermine cohesion. It said every member must be identifiable, verifiable and properly documented in line with best democratic practices.
The Lagos APC added that the exercise provides equal opportunity for both old and new members to validate their membership without fear or favour, while dismantling gate-keeping structures within the party. It stressed that no individual or group owns the party beyond its constitution and collective will.
The party also described the e-registration as foundational to credible congresses, transparent primaries and legitimate leadership selection, arguing that a reliable digital register is essential for internal democracy.
Oladejo further said the initiative would enhance the party’s mobilisation efforts, particularly among youths and professionals, while strengthening grassroots coordination and electoral preparedness through a data-driven membership system.
The Lagos APC urged all members and stakeholders to participate fully in the exercise, warning that indifference would amount to a disservice to the party. It reaffirmed its commitment to continued reform and expansion, saying the e-registration exercise underscores its determination to remain a strong, future-ready political institution.
