The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has acknowledged the appeal lodged by the Senegalese Football Federation against the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to strip Senegal of their Africa Cup of Nations title.
CAF’s ruling last week followed Senegal’s decision to walk off the pitch during their final match against hosts Morocco in January.
According to CAF, the action breached tournament regulations, prompting its Appeal Board to uphold sanctions against the West African nation.
Morocco has since been declared champions after CAF ruled that Senegal forfeited the match, awarding a 3–0 victory to the hosts.
In a statement, CAS Director-General Matthieu Reeb said: “CAS is perfectly equipped to resolve this type of dispute, with the assistance of expert and independent arbitrators.
“We understand that teams and fans are eager to know the final decision, and we will ensure that arbitration proceedings are conducted as swiftly as possible, while respecting the right of all parties to a fair hearing.”
