LASHMA Pushes Compliance As Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board Aligns With Ilèra Eko

The enforcement team of the Lagos State Health Insurance Management Agency (LASHMA) has paid a follow-up visit to the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB) to assess the level of compliance among staff and stakeholders with enrollment into the Ilèra Eko Health Insurance Programme.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Lagos State.

The Acting Registrar of LSTMB, Mr. Hakeem Bello, who had earlier expressed the Board’s readiness to collaborate with LASHMA, reiterated the importance of health insurance for practitioners and the general public.

Bello disclosed that the Board has ensured that all staff members who were yet to enroll have now been registered and are awaiting feedback from LASHMA to complete the process.

“With the new development, the Board will subsequently invite LASHMA to participate in advocacy and sensitisation programmes to further deepen awareness among practitioners,” Bello added.

Speaking during the visit, the LASHMA team lead, Mr. Lucas Raheem, said the engagement was aimed at ensuring high-level compliance, stressing that the overarching goal is to guarantee that every Lagos resident has access to quality healthcare, regardless of socio-economic status.

Raheem commended the Board’s proactive approach, noting that its willingness to take necessary steps toward compliance has been impressive.

As part of the next steps, he urged LSTMB to make it mandatory for practitioners to present a valid LASHMA policy number as a prerequisite for registration and renewal.

According to him, the measure would significantly accelerate progress toward achieving universal health coverage in the state.
