Alexis Mac Allister scored a superb winner as Liverpool opened their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid at Anfield.
Marcos Llorente put Atletico ahead before Dominik Szoboszlai equalised. Mac Allister then struck from outside the box to secure Andoni Iraola’s first home and Champions League win as Liverpool manager.
Liverpool remain unbeaten under Iraola but have conceded first in three of their last four games. Llorente capitalised on a defensive error to score, before Szoboszlai levelled before half-time.
Mac Allister’s decisive goal came shortly after the restart, when he collected a loose ball and fired past Jan Oblak.
Liverpool held on for three points and next face LASK away on October 14.
