The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) has successfully contained a major fire outbreak at a warehouse along Coker Market Road, Amuwo-Odofin Industrial Layout, Mile 2 area of Lagos.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Controller General of the Service, Margret Adeseye, the agency received a distress call at about 8:29 p.m. on Saturday, reporting a fire incident at the expansive warehouse. Firefighting crews arrived at the scene within 11 minutes, at about 8:40 p.m.
Firefighters from the Ajegunle, Sari Iganmu, Okota and Alausa Fire Stations were immediately deployed to battle the inferno. The warehouse was said to be stocked with highly explosive materials stored in hundreds of 200-litre drums, which significantly increased the risk and complexity of the operation.
Despite the dangerous nature of the materials involved, the firefighters worked through the night in a coordinated operation and successfully brought the fire under control at about 5:55 a.m. on Sunday, preventing it from spreading to nearby facilities.
No casualties were recorded in the incident.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, as investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reiterated its commitment to the protection of lives and property, while urging residents and business owners to strictly comply with fire safety regulations to prevent future incidents.
