Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has said his son, Abba Abubakar’s decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) after leaving the PDP is a personal choice and will not affect his own political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku stated that his son is an adult capable of making independent decisions, adding that he does not compel any of his children to follow his political path, including his recent association with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He made this known on Thursday while reacting to reports of his son’s defection to the APC ahead of the next general elections.
In a statement on his facebook page, Atiku clarified “The decision of my son, Abba Abubakar, to join the APC is entirely personal. In a democracy, such choices are neither unusual nor alarming, even when family and politics intersect. As a democrat, I do not coerce my own children in matters of conscience, and I certainly will not coerce Nigerians.
“What truly concerns me is the poor governance of the APC and the severe economic and social hardships it has imposed on our people. I remain resolute in working with like-minded patriots to restore good governance and offer Nigerians a credible alternative that brings relief, hope and progress,” he added.
It would be recalled that Atiku’s son, Abba has joined the All Progressives Congress, to mobilize support for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He was received by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin and the National Vice Chairman of the APC, North East, Mustafa Salihu, Thursday evening, in Abuja.
Abba Abubakar Atiku also renamed the political group he founded to Haske Bola Tinubu Organinsation. It was set up in 2022 as Atiku Haske organisation.
