Apex leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Somolu Federal Constituency have reaffirmed their support for the party’s decisions and stressed the need for members to uphold party supremacy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The leaders made their position known on Saturday at Ward A and B polling units in Somolu, Lagos, during the House of Representatives primary election exercise for the Somolu Federal Constituency seat.
Speaking at the venue, an apex leader in Somolu, Ajibade Ajayi, said the party leadership had resolved to support Mr Kolade Alabi as the consensus candidate for the constituency. He urged aspirants and party loyalists to remain committed to unity and discipline within the party structure.
Ajayi explained that several meetings had earlier been held with aspirants in an effort to persuade some of them to step down for one another in the interest of peace and cohesion, but the consultations failed to produce the desired outcome.
“Therefore, the primary election became necessary in the interest of fairness, equity and justice. At the end of the process, it will be clear whom the people want to represent them. However, party supremacy will prevail in the final decision,” he said.
Also speaking, APC state officer and apex leader in Somolu, Yomi Olubamide, expressed satisfaction with the turnout of party members and loyalists who participated in the exercise, saying the large number of participants reflected the strength and unity of the party in the constituency.
Olubamide urged party faithful to respect the decisions reached by the leadership, noting that whoever eventually emerges as the party’s candidate should enjoy the full support of members during the general elections.
Meanwhile, another apex leader from Somolu, Samuel Oluyida called on members to respect the party’s rotational and zoning arrangement, stating that the House of Representatives seat rotates between Somolu and Bariga, and that the party had already settled for Mr Kolade Alabi from Bariga as its consensus candidate.
