NITDA Targets Global Competitiveness for Nigerian Creators With Tech-Driven Ecosystem
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Nigeria’s creative and arts industry through targeted digital initiatives, enabling regulations, and strategic infrastructure development aimed at unlocking the sector’s full economic potential.
Speaking at Moment 2026, Africa’s largest convergence of creators, NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, said the agency is focused on building a technology-driven ecosystem where creators can thrive, innovate, and compete globally.
Inuwa, represented by the Director of the DG’s Office, Dr Ayodeji Eniola, highlighted the sector’s growing importance, noting that Nigeria’s creative industry—currently valued at over $9 billion—could exceed $13 billion in the coming years with the right support systems in place.
“Nigeria has always been a nation of storytellers, musicians, filmmakers, designers, and innovators. What is remarkable today is that this creativity has evolved beyond cultural expression to become a powerful economic force,” he said.
He explained that digital talent development is central to NITDA’s interventions, with programmes such as the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative equipping young Nigerians with skills in animation, visual effects, game development, and digital media for the global creator economy.
The DG stressed that the intersection of creativity and technology will shape the future, noting that connectivity, digital platforms, and access to devices now enable Nigerian creators to reach global audiences.
To support this transformation, he said NITDA is developing key digital infrastructure, including the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative, while also backing broadband expansion efforts like Project BRIDGE to improve connectivity and participation in the digital economy.
Inuwa further disclosed that through the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), NITDA is advancing AI research and capacity building for creators, urging young Nigerians to recognise the global and economic value of their work.
He reiterated the agency’s commitment to policies and initiatives that will grow the sector, create jobs, and support economic diversification.
