2026 Budget: Lagos Dismisses Report On ₦4.2bn For Deputy Gov’s Office Furniture
The Lagos State Government has denied reports claiming that its 2026 budget earmarked ₦4.2 billion for the purchase of office furniture and 30 microphones for the Office of the Deputy Governor.
The report had alleged that the allocation covered the procurement of 10 executive tables and chairs, 40 visitor chairs, and 120 officers’ tables and chairs for the Deputy Governor’s Office, including newly deployed principal staff and other offices. It also claimed that 30 microphones would be purchased for the delegates’ conference room.
However, debunking the claims, the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, in a statement issued on Friday, described the report as inaccurate and a misinterpretation of the approved capital provisions.
“The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to reports alleging that ₦4.2 billion was proposed in the 2026 budget for the purchase of office furniture and microphones for the Office of the Deputy Governor. This claim is inaccurate and results from a clear misinterpretation of the approved capital provisions,” the statement read.
The ministry clarified that the total capital allocation for the Office of the Deputy Governor in the 2026 fiscal year is ₦4,247,816,006, and not solely for furniture and microphones as suggested.
It explained that ₦4,077,816,006 of the amount is earmarked for the reconstruction of the Round House complex, a six-storey building that houses more than 50 offices, including structural upgrades, retrofitting works, and the installation of alternative energy infrastructure.
The balance of ₦170 million, the ministry stated, is designated for the purchase of office equipment, furniture, fittings, and other capital items, noting that all budgetary provisions are guided by due process, fiscal discipline, and established accounting standards.
The ministry urged stakeholders and media organisations to seek clarification through appropriate channels to ensure accurate and responsible reporting.
