Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) has hosted Fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) on the Lagos waterways as part of efforts to deepen their understanding of governance and public sector operations.
The engagement, held under the academy’s Brown Bag Series, offered the Fellows a practical experience of water transportation while providing direct interaction with leadership across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). The initiative is designed to expose participants to policy implementation processes and institutional mandates through structured roundtable sessions.
Speaking during the visit, LAGFERRY Managing Director, Hon. Ladi Balogun, traced the evolution of water transportation in Lagos State, highlighting the agency’s growth over the past six years. He attributed the progress to the support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, noting that deliberate investments in the sector have significantly expanded operations.
According to him, LAGFERRY has transported over four million passengers as of 2026, a sharp increase from just over 40,000 recorded in 2020.
He added that the agency now operates 17 terminals and jetties, servicing 27 routes across the state, with its fleet growing from four vessels in 2020 to 20.
Balogun also stressed the agency’s commitment to safety, citing strict enforcement of protocols such as compulsory use of life jackets, comprehensive insurance coverage, regular training for boat captains, and routine vessel maintenance.
The visit culminated in a guided cruise aboard the MV Adimu Orisa barge from the Five Cowries Terminal in Falomo, giving the Fellows a firsthand view of key landmarks along the Lagos coastline, including the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.
The agency said the initiative reflects LAGFERRY’s commitment to stakeholder engagement and knowledge sharing within the public sector.
