LASODA Pushes Inclusive Employment, Safer Public Spaces For PWDs

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has intensified efforts to promote disability inclusion through engagements with key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Lagos State.

The General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, led the agency’s management team on courtesy visits to the Lagos State Civil Service Commission and the Lagos State Safety Commission to explore areas of collaboration on disability-inclusive policies and interventions.

During the visit to the Civil Service Commission, its Chairman, Mrs. Boladele Dapo-Thomas, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to improving the integration of civil servants with disabilities into the public service.

She also pledged support for making promotion exercises more disability-inclusive to ensure the meaningful participation of workers with disabilities.

Earlier, Oyetunde-Lawal stressed the need to prioritise disability issues, particularly by promoting inclusive employment practices and ensuring that persons with disabilities have equitable opportunities within the public service.

At the Lagos State Safety Commission, its Director-General, Mr. Lanre Mojola, highlighted measures to improve accessibility and safety in public buildings, including the provision of ramps and accessible parking spaces.

Discussions also focused on strengthening safety and accessibility in event centres, schools, workplaces and other public spaces.

The engagements highlighted the need to extend workplace safety measures beyond conventional standards to ensure that persons with disabilities can access public facilities and move around safely and with dignity.
