Edo, NEMA Distribute Relief Materials To Flood Victims

The Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have distributed relief materials to families affected by the recent flood disaster in Etsako Central Local Government Area.

The July 17 flood submerged homes, farmlands and other sources of livelihood across 14 communities, affecting more than 4,000 households.

Speaking during the distribution at the Etsako Central IDP Camp, EDOSEMA Executive Secretary, Jerry Idahosa, said NEMA provided relief materials for 6,000 households as the first phase of the Federal Government’s intervention.

Idahosa said the materials were being distributed in collaboration with the local government to ensure they reached verified beneficiaries, adding that further assistance was expected from the state government and other stakeholders.

Chairman of Etsako Central LGA, Vera Sado, commended the federal and state governments for the intervention, saying representatives of all affected communities were included in the distribution exercise.

Each beneficiary household received rice, beans, spaghetti, seasoning cubes, groundnut oil and tomato paste.

A beneficiary from Udaba Community, Patricia Chukwudib, appealed for sustained support, saying recurring floods continue to destroy farmlands and undermine the livelihoods of families in the area.
