The Nigerian Institute of Journalism Alumni Association (NIJAA) has launched a global Alumni Directory to reconnect more than 10,000 Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) graduates and build a stronger, data-driven network.
NIJAA President Muyiwa Akintunde said the directory would provide a reliable database of alumni, their professions and locations to support networking, welfare, mentorship and access to professional opportunities.
The association has identified nearly 1,000 alumni through its WhatsApp platforms, while 136 members had registered as of September 14, 2026.
Akintunde said NIJAA would work with class captains and set representatives across the National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and short-course programmes to reconnect alumni from different generations, including those in the diaspora.
The directory will support the planned NIJAA Mentorship Connect and Opportunities Desk, linking younger professionals with experienced alumni and providing access to jobs, fellowships, training and freelance opportunities.
NIJAA also plans to introduce digital membership cards for verified members, featuring unique identification numbers, photographs, set and chapter details, and QR codes linked to verified directory profiles.
Akintunde said the system would simplify alumni verification and provide access to NIJAA events, programmes and selected benefits. He urged all alumni, whether working in journalism or other fields, to register.
The current registration phase will close on October 12, 2026.
NIJAA said the initiative marked the beginning of a broader effort to transform the association into an organised, connected professional network that creates lasting value for members and the Nigerian Institute of Journalism.
“Its success will depend on our ability to reconnect, identify and mobilise the vast network of professionals produced by NIJ,” Akintunde said.
