Shooting Stars Crash Out After Sfaxien Comeback Win

CS Sfaxien of Tunisia on Sunday in Tunis advanced to the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after defeating Nigerian side Shooting Stars of Ibadan 2-0.
Goals from Youssef Habichia and Iyed Belwafi proved decisive as Sfaxien overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit to eliminate the Nigerian side.
Sfaxien started strongly, taking advantage of home support and an energetic opening despite the match being played behind closed doors.
Habichia broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, handing the hosts a crucial lead and putting them ahead on aggregate.
Shooting Stars responded with determination and pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Sfaxien’s disciplined defence kept the visitors at bay.
The Nigerian side continued to press after the interval but struggled to create clear-cut chances against the resilient Tunisian backline.
Sfaxien eventually doubled their advantage in the 68th minute through Belwafi, effectively sealing their progression to the next round.
Despite a spirited effort from Shooting Stars, they were unable to find a breakthrough as the Tunisian side held on for a 2-0 victory.
The result ends Shooting Stars’ CAF Confederation Cup campaign and brings their return to continental football, after a 27-year absence, to an end.
