… To partners Genius Learning on digital parenting initiative
The Edo State Government is set to partner with Genius Learning and Development Company on a digital parenting initiative aimed at helping parents better guide and protect their children in an increasingly technology-driven environment.
The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, disclosed this when a delegation from the company visited the Government House in Benin City.
Anani said changing patterns of child development and communication had made parenting increasingly challenging, stressing the need for parents to understand how to engage their children and maintain a healthy balance in the digital age.
Presenting the initiative, United States-certified Family Wellness and Development Coach, Dr. Tejiri Chunu, said the programme was designed to address the limited support available to parents compared with the attention given to equipping children with digital skills.
According to Chunu, the gap has contributed to challenges such as cyberbullying and other online risks, noting that many parents who grew up in the analogue era require guidance to understand the digital environment and help their children navigate it safely.
“The goal is an Edo State where not just children are becoming responsible human beings with technology, but where we have families that are being strengthened because parents understand how to parent better,” Chunu said.
The proposed initiative will be implemented across schools, churches, mosques and other institutions through in-school, out-of-school and online sessions.
The engagement ended with plans to develop a roadmap for the initiative, while the Office of the First Lady is expected to provide a broader platform for outreach and partnership mobilisation.
