Nigeria’s football governing body, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has postponed its Elective Congress and Annual General Meeting (AGM) by 24 hours due to scheduling conflicts.
The Congress, initially slated for Saturday, September 26, 2026, in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, will now hold on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
The Elective Congress will usher in a new Executive Committee to oversee the affairs of the NFF for the next four years.
At an extraordinary virtual General Assembly held on Wednesday, NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, explained that the date change became necessary following the scheduling of the Super Eagles’ opening qualifier for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations against Madagascar’s Barea.
According to Gusau, after consultations with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the qualifying match was fixed for Friday, September 25, 2026. He noted that several candidates contesting the NFF elections would be involved in the match, making it practically impossible for them to travel to Lafia in time for the Congress the following day.
He said the NFF Executive Committee convened the extraordinary General Assembly to seek approval for the one-day postponement, proposing that the Elective Congress be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in Lafia.
Members of the Congress unanimously approved the proposal after a motion was moved and seconded during the meeting.
As of the time of filing this report, most NFF officials were in Morocco for the ongoing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
