National leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be voted out in the 2027 general elections, citing what he described as widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians.
Dickson made the remarks on Sunday during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, where he discussed the forthcoming general elections and the NDC’s preparedness for the polls.
According to him, the party believes Nigerians are yearning for change because their expectations under the current administration have not been met.
“As leader of the NDC, and as a Nigerian who knows the feelings and yearnings of Nigerians, and who also knows that their aspirations have not been met, we believe that the APC government, the APC as a party, and President Tinubu will be defeated massively,” he said.
The former Bayelsa State governor, however, stressed that the outcome of the election would ultimately be determined by the electorate rather than by any individual or political group.
He also cautioned against what he described as attempts to shrink the democratic space through the misuse of legal processes and the judiciary, warning that such actions could undermine Nigeria’s democratic system.
Dickson appealed to the leadership of the judiciary to remain impartial and resist pressure from politicians, saying the institution plays a critical role in safeguarding the nation’s democracy.
“My plea to the leadership of Nigeria’s judiciary, which is the pride of our nation and the institution that holds the balance while we politicians engage in political contests, alongside INEC, is: please do not allow desperate politicians to truncate our democracy,” he said.
