The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed the recovery of two bodies, while 16 persons were rescued alive from the rubble of a collapsed three-storey building on Old Ojo Road, near Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town, Lagos.
Emergency responders said 16 occupants were successfully pulled from the debris alive, while search and rescue operations remain ongoing to determine whether more victims are trapped beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred at about 11:49 a.m. on Thursday, following a distress call received by the Ijegun-Egba Fire Station after the building reportedly collapsed without warning.
Agencies participating in the coordinated rescue operation include the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
The Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the building was a residential structure occupied by multiple tenants at the time of the collapse.
She added that those rescued sustained varying degrees of injuries and have been taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Adeseye further stated that rescue teams are continuing efforts to locate, extricate, and evacuate any persons who may still be trapped beneath the debris.
