Ronaldo Makes World Cup History As Portugal Thrash Uzbekistan

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Portugal beat Uzbekistan 5-0 in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group K match at Houston Stadium on Tuesday.

The Portugal captain became the first player to score in six World Cup tournaments and the oldest to score a brace at the competition.

Nuno Mendes and Rafael Leão also scored, while an own goal from Uzbekistan goalkeeper Abduvohid Nematov completed the rout.

Ronaldo opened the scoring in the sixth minute and added a second before halftime after Mendes had doubled the lead with a free-kick.

Portugal added two more after the break, with the own goal and Leão’s late finish.

The win gave Portugal their first of the tournament after a 1-1 draw with DR Congo and lifted them to the top of Group K with four points from two matches.

Ronaldo’s brace also took him past Eusébio as Portugal’s all-time leading World Cup scorer with 10 goals.
