Japan”s Historic 4-0 Win Ends Tunisia’s Hopes
Japan made World Cup history with a commanding 4-0 victory over Tunisia, becoming the first Asian nation to score four goals in a FIFA World Cup match while also recording the continent’s biggest-ever winning margin at the tournament.
Daichi Kamada set the tone early, scoring Japan’s fastest-ever World Cup goal in the fourth minute. Ayase Ueda doubled the advantage on the half-hour mark before Junya Ito added a third in the 69th minute. Ueda completed his brace with a powerful header seven minutes from time to seal an emphatic win.
The result leaves Tunisia eliminated from the competition, while Japan moved level with the Netherlands on four points at the top of Group F.
It was a difficult evening for Tunisia’s new head coach, Herve Renard, who was appointed after the Carthage Eagles suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match following the departure of Sabri Lamouchi.
Tunisia’s defensive struggles continued as they conceded four more goals, taking their total to nine in just two matches. They now face a daunting final group-stage encounter against the Netherlands as they seek to end their campaign on a positive note.
For Japan, however, the victory underlined their growing status on the world stage and strengthened their hopes of advancing deep into the tournament.
