Tinubu To Address National Assembly On Democracy Day

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will deliver a Joint Address to the National Assembly on Friday, June 12, 2026, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 27th Democracy Day anniversary, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has announced.

The disclosure was made during the inauguration of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) responsible for coordinating the national celebrations.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, who inaugurated the committee at the Shehu Shagari Complex in Abuja, said the presidential address would be one of the key highlights of the commemoration programme.

Akume described Democracy Day as a solemn occasion for reflecting on the sacrifices of Nigerians who fought for the restoration of democratic governance. He paid tribute to the heroes of the June 12, 1993 struggle, particularly the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola.

According to him, the anniversary also provides an opportunity for the Federal Government to showcase its achievements in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting national development despite prevailing socio-economic challenges.

With just ten days to the celebration, the SGF urged members of the committee to commence work immediately to ensure a successful event. He noted that this year’s activities would reflect the mood of the nation and the administration’s commitment to fiscal prudence.
