Rangers International of Enugu were on Sunday crowned champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City in a dramatic final-day clash in Lagos.
The Flying Antelopes finished the 2025/2026 season with 68 points, securing a record-equalling ninth league title to move level with Enyimba International as the joint most successful club in NPFL history.
Despite ending the campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over El-Kanemi Warriors, Rivers United finished second and will take consolation in securing a place in next season’s CAF Champions League.
Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan are also set to return to continental football after 27 years. The last time the Oluyole Warriors featured on the continent was in the 1999 CAF Champions League.
3SC and Ikorodu City l third and fourth respectively, earning qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Defending champions Remo Stars will now await the outcome of the outstanding fixture between Kun Khalifa and Wikki Tourists to determine their final position on the table after settling for a 1-1 draw against Bendel Insurance in Benin.
Kun Khalifa could still push Remo Stars further down the standings if they defeat Wikki Tourists. Meanwhile, El-Kanemi Warriors, Bayelsa United and Wikki Tourists have already been relegated to the Nigeria National League (NNL).
The final whistle sparked wild celebrations among Rangers supporters as the Enugu side secured their second league title in three seasons under General Manager, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, and Technical Adviser, Fidelis Ilechukwu.
