Manchester United are in talks with former midfielder Michael Carrick over a two-year contract to appoint him as the club’s permanent head coach.
Senior officials at the club are understood to have identified Carrick as the preferred candidate to take charge following his spell as caretaker manager since January.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the 44-year-old said clarity over his future at Old Trafford would come “pretty soon.”
An official announcement could be made before United’s final home game of the season against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, although the club has yet to confirm the timing.
Sources close to the negotiations say the proposed deal is expected to include an option for an additional year.
When asked directly about the ongoing discussions, Carrick said: “The future for me is going to be decided pretty soon. We knew that.”
