Newly appointed Head Coach of Nigeria’s U-20 men’s national team, the Flying Eagles, Abdu Maikaba, has selected Ortega Deniran as first assistant coach, Abdullahi Biffo as second assistant coach, and Usman Mohammed as goalkeepers’ trainer to help build a new squad capable of making the country proud.
Maikaba, who previously served as assistant coach of the two-time FIFA World Cup runners-up Flying Eagles and also managed several top Nigerian clubs, unveiled his backroom staff on Thursday as the team prepares to resume camp in Abuja on Sunday, May 17.
Preparations will begin in earnest for the forthcoming WAFU B U-20 Boys Championship scheduled for July.
The tournament will serve as the qualifying competition for next year’s Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, a tournament the Flying Eagles have won a record seven times.
Similarly, newly appointed U-17 boys’ national team coach, Eboboritse Uwejamomere, has named Olumide Joseph Ajibolade as first assistant coach, Mohammed Kalli Kachala as second assistant coach, and Abdullahi Isa as goalkeepers’ trainer.
The coaching crew has been tasked with building a new Golden Eaglets squad aimed at returning Nigeria to the FIFA U-17 World Cup and pursuing a record-extending sixth world title.
This year’s WAFU B U-17 Boys Championship is scheduled for September and will serve as the qualification tournament for next year’s Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
