Joao Palhinha’s late strike secured Tottenham Hotspur’s first Premier League victory since December, but it did little to ease their mounting relegation concerns.
Spurs remain third from bottom, two points adrift of safety with just four games left, after West Ham United snatched a dramatic 2-1 injury-time win over Everton.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side appeared set to climb out of the drop zone when substitute João Palhinha bundled home from close range against already relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, Callum Wilson’s stoppage-time winner for West Ham elsewhere denied Spurs crucial relief.
There was also late drama in their own match, as goalkeeper Antonín Kinský produced a superb last-gasp save to deny João Gomes’s free-kick.
Tottenham, aiming to avoid their first top-flight relegation since 1977, were dealt further blows with injuries to Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons.
Despite dominating a largely uneventful first half, Spurs struggled for quality in the final third. Simons missed a key opportunity before being forced off with a knee injury, while José Sá made a fine save to deny Rodrigo Bentancur.
Palhinha eventually broke the deadlock with seven minutes remaining, and Kinský’s late heroics ensured Spurs held on for a vital yet nervy three points.
