The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has resigned his position in the Federal Executive Council to pursue his ambition of becoming the Governor of Oyo State.
Adelabu’s resignation was conveyed in a letter dated March 26, 2026, addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
In the letter, the former minister expressed gratitude to the president for the opportunity to serve in his administration, describing it as a privilege to contribute to efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s power sector.
He noted that his tenure was focused on advancing reforms in line with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Adelabu stated that his decision to step down was to enable him to fully dedicate his time and resources to his governorship aspiration in Oyo State.
“I wish to sincerely thank Your Excellency for the confidence reposed in me and the opportunity given to serve our great nation,” he wrote.
He also conveyed his appreciation and respect to the president, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him during his time in office.
Adelabu, who served as Minister of Power, is expected to formally begin consultations ahead of the Oyo State governorship race.
