The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over what it described as an “inappropriate and hostile” message directed at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his birthday.
In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the APC condemned the ADC’s remarks, accusing the opposition party of displaying bitterness and hostility in a moment that, according to him, called for goodwill and restraint.
Oladejo described the ADC’s conduct as irresponsible, alleging that it reflects a party struggling with internal challenges and lacking direction. He argued that the tone of the message underscored what he termed a failure by the opposition to uphold civility in political discourse.
The APC spokesman contrasted the ADC’s action with what he called examples of empathy and decorum in public life, citing the response of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) during the personal loss of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, even while he faced legal proceedings.
According to Oladejo, such instances demonstrate that respect and humanity should be maintained regardless of political differences or circumstances.
He further accused the ADC of abandoning constructive opposition, stating that its approach amounted to “political recklessness” rather than meaningful engagement. He added that Nigerians deserve an opposition capable of presenting credible alternatives rather than resorting to what he described as “toxic outbursts.”
The APC reiterated its commitment to governance in Lagos State and at the national level, maintaining that it remains focused on delivering its mandate while opposition parties address their internal issues.
