The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has dismissed recent moves by opposition parties as disorganised and unrealistic, urging them to focus on rebuilding ahead of future elections rather than pursuing what it described as “impossible victories.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the ruling party said while opposition participation remains vital to democratic governance, such engagement must be rooted in realism, responsibility, and respect for the mandate given by voters.
Oladejo pointed to the outcome of recent off-season elections as evidence of Nigerians’ continued confidence in the APC’s leadership and development agenda.
He contrasted this with what he described as the opposition’s lack of cohesion and preparedness to mount a credible challenge.
The spokesman also criticised ongoing efforts by opposition groups to form alliances and coalitions close to the start of party primaries, describing the moves as a last-minute scramble that exposes internal disarray.
“It is quite laughable that the same opposition is still desperately shopping for alliances just days before the commencement of party primaries,” the statement read, questioning whether such actions reduce democracy to a political lottery.
The APC advised opposition parties to redirect their efforts toward internal reforms and long-term planning, suggesting they prepare more strategically for the 2031 electoral cycle.
Reaffirming its focus on governance, the party said it remains committed to delivering on infrastructure, economic growth, and security, while urging all political actors to contribute to peace, stability, and progress in Lagos State.
