The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has joined the global community in celebrating women on the occasion of International Women’s Day, praising their resilience and contributions to societal development.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Lagos APC Spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said the party recognises the vital role women play in building families, communities and the economy, describing them as the backbone of society.
Oladejo noted that the party remains proud of the deliberate policies implemented by successive APC-led administrations in Lagos State, which he said have focused on empowering women and expanding opportunities for them to thrive.
According to him, the state has consistently maintained one of the highest levels of female representation in public service, with women serving in key positions such as commissioners, permanent secretaries, legislators, special advisers, heads of government agencies and High Court judges.
“This reflects the party’s belief that inclusive leadership strengthens governance and improves policy outcomes,” he said.
Oladejo added that APC-led governments in Lagos have supported thousands of women entrepreneurs, traders and artisans through empowerment initiatives, access to microcredit schemes, capacity-building programmes and cooperative support structures.
He explained that women in markets, small businesses and the creative industries have benefited from these interventions, which he said have helped strengthen household incomes and contribute to the state’s economy.
The party spokesman also highlighted social protection programmes aimed at protecting women from abuse, expanding access to healthcare and promoting girl-child education.
He said women working in agriculture, technology, education and the creative economy have equally benefited from government-backed training programmes, grants and innovation support initiatives.
Oladejo said the achievements demonstrate the party’s commitment to gender inclusion and women’s empowerment as a key component of sustainable development.
“As we mark International Women’s Day, the Lagos APC reaffirms its commitment to policies that promote women’s participation in governance, strengthen economic opportunities for women and ensure that every girl has the opportunity to achieve her dreams,” he said.
He also commended women across Lagos and Nigeria for their courage and resilience, acknowledging their contributions to building stronger families, communities and institutions.
