Igando-Ikotun LCDA Chairman, Akinsanya, Adopts ‘Miracle Baby’ Born To Homeless Mother

 

 

In a remarkable display of compassion and commitment to residents’ welfare, the Chairman of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area in Lagos State, Lasisi Akinsanya, has formally adopted a newborn baby boy who will be named Akinsanya Oluwadamilare Araoluwa.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Council’s Public Affairs Unit on Wednesday.

The infant, described by witnesses as a “miracle baby,” was reportedly born with a natural circumcision.

The child was delivered on Dare Street, Ikotun, by a homeless young woman, Oyinkansola Lekan, with assistance from two community members, Omobolanle Idowu and Opeyemi Odusanya, who helped her through labour.

According to those who intervened, Oyinkansola—said to be the daughter of a mentally ill mother and an absent father became pregnant by an unidentified man.

The baby boy, born under challenging circumstances, is now under the care and protection of the council chairman.

According to the statement, upon receiving news of the incident, Akinsanya immediately directed that the young mother be moved to the Ikotun Primary Health Centre within the council secretariat, where she is currently receiving postnatal care and medical support.

Speaking on the development, the chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the security, health, and overall well-being of all residents, particularly the most vulnerable.

“This child is a gift to our community. It is our duty to ensure he, and his mother, are given a chance at a safe, healthy, and dignified life,” Akinsanya said.

The intervention includes full medical coverage for both mother and child, as well as plans for temporary shelter and rehabilitation support. The council’s Social Welfare Unit is collaborating with health officials to ensure comprehensive care and long-term assistance.

“The development underscores the council’s proactive approach to social welfare and community protection under the leadership of Senior Comrade Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya”, the statement read.
