Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has pledged to establish more institutions before the end of his tenure in 2027, as part of efforts to strengthen governance and promote sustainable development across the state.
The governor made this declaration at a symposium held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, to mark the 50th anniversary of Oyo State, where he also revealed plans to design a new development roadmap for the state beyond 2027.
Makinde said his administration has institutionalised a merit-based system, emphasising that the focus is on building strong institutions rather than relying on strong individuals to guarantee continuity in governance.
He explained that the institutions created by his government are meant to support effective leadership and ensure lasting development that will endure beyond the lifespan of his administration.
According to the governor, his government will unveil a document titled “Roadmap for Continued Development of Oyo State 2027 and Beyond,” which will incorporate Agenda 2040 and outline plans to guide the state’s growth over the next 50 years.
Makinde warned political actors seeking to succeed him against taking the people of Oyo State for granted, noting that residents are keen on the continuation of the Omituntun development agenda.
In his goodwill message, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, congratulated Oyo State on its golden jubilee celebration, describing the state as a pacesetter and praising its people for their generosity.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of the African Center for Shared Development Capacity Building, Prof. Olu Ajakaiye, commended Governor Makinde for effective planning and accountability, urging him to give legal backing to the institutions created and intensify efforts to address insecurity in the state.
