The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheedi Adewolu Ladoja, held a high-level meeting with the Secretary to the Federal Government, Dr. George Akume, in Abuja on Thursday, January 22, 2026. The discussion focused on finding solutions to pressing ecological problems affecting parts of Ibadan city.
During the meeting, Oba Ladoja appealed to the Federal Government for support in addressing the environmental threats that are increasingly impacting the Ibadan metropolis. He emphasized the urgency of coordinated action to prevent further socio-economic damage.
In response, Dr. Akume described the Olubadan as “a man of the people” who has consistently advocated for the welfare of his subjects. He expressed admiration for the monarch’s initiative in bringing these ecological concerns directly to the federal authorities.
Akume assured that the Federal Government would act promptly to address the reported environmental and socio-economic threats in Ibadan. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between traditional institutions and government agencies in resolving local challenges.
Oba Ladoja was accompanied to the meeting by Senator Fatai Buhari and Senator Sharafadeen Alli, reinforcing the significance of the discussions at the federal level. The presence of the senators underscored the need for legislative support in tackling environmental issues in the state.
The meeting comes shortly after Oba Ladoja was appointed chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas last Thursday, a role that positions him as a key traditional leader in guiding policy and development initiatives within the state.
