No Banger, No Firework: Alimosho LG Partners Traditional Rulers For Safe Yuletide 

The Chairman of Alimosho Local Government in Lagos State, Mr. Akinpelu Johnson, has met with traditional rulers across the council area to strengthen collaboration and solicit their support in campaigning against the use of bangers, fireworks and other explosive items during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Speaking at the meeting, the chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining a cordial and productive relationship with traditional institutions, describing them as critical partners in grassroots governance and community stability. He expressed satisfaction with the unity displayed by the monarchs and chiefs, noting that such harmony was a positive sign for the progress of Alimosho Local Government.

“I am indeed happy to see all our kings and chiefs coming together as one. With this unity, Alimosho is in for a good time. I thank you for your continued support for our administration, and I assure you that we will not relent in supporting and upholding the dignity of our traditional institutions,” Johnson said.

The chairman appealed to the traditional rulers to leverage their influence and palace platforms to sensitise residents on the dangers associated with the use of bangers, fireworks and other explosive items. He warned that the practice instils fear, poses serious health risks—particularly to hypertensive individuals—and could lead to fire outbreaks and the destruction of property.

Johnson stressed that the local government would strictly enforce the ban on the use of such items, adding that both offenders and suppliers would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

In their response, the traditional rulers commended the chairman for consistently involving them in governance and security-related matters. They pledged their full support to the local government and the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration at all levels, assuring residents of their commitment to promoting a peaceful, safe and responsible celebration of the festive season.

Traditional rulers present at the meeting included Oba Omogoriola Hammed Orelope Laka I, the Elegbeda of Egbeda Kingdom; Oba Nosiru Babatunde Ogunronbi, the Onishasha of Shasha Kingdom; Oba Raufu Akeeb Adebowale, the Alaye of Orisunbare; as well as several baales from across Alimosho Local Government.
