The state chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have unanimously expressed support for the National Working Committee (NWC) led by its National Chairman, Dr. Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
The chairmen made their position known during an interactive meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja, where they pledged their collective resolve to ensure stability, unity and success for the party under the current leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the chairmen from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Chairman of the PDP State Chairmen’s Forum and Chairman of the Edo State chapter, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, said the NWC under Turaki’s leadership had demonstrated strong commitment to internal democracy and party rebuilding.
“We are here today to send a clear message that we are solidly behind the Tanimu Turaki-led PDP NWC,” Aziegbemi declared.
He acknowledged that while the party faces challenges, the state chairmen are encouraged by what he described as the NWC’s unwavering dedication to upholding the party’s constitution and preparing it for future electoral victories.
“The PDP needs cohesion now more than ever,” he said, adding that the chairmen condemned any actions or rhetoric aimed at destabilising the party. According to him, unity remains critical if the PDP is to effectively play its role as a credible opposition and alternative platform for Nigerians.
The chairmen also commended the NWC for initiating programmes aimed at strengthening party structures at all levels and ensuring that internal processes, including congresses, are conducted in line with the party’s constitution.
They urged all PDP stakeholders to set aside personal differences and rally behind the NWC to allow it to concentrate on preparations for the next electoral cycle.
“Our focus must remain on the Nigerian people. The PDP is a democratic institution, and we must allow its constituted organs, particularly the National Working Committee, to carry out their responsibilities without undue pressure,” Aziegbemi added.
The meeting ended with a renewed pledge of loyalty and support from the state chairmen, who reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the NWC to reposition the PDP for greater success.
A total of 27 out of the 36 state chairmen and the FCT chairman were present at the meeting.
