The leadership of the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu 2027 (GMT) has expressed confidence that Nigeria’s rising insecurity will soon abate following the appointment of former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), as Minister of Defence.
Speaking on Thursday in Ikeja at a special inter-faith prayer session for President Bola Tinubu and the nation, the Director-General of GMT, Hon. Bisi Yusuff, claimed that the worsening security situation was a ploy to distract the President. He insisted that such distractions would not derail the administration’s progress.
Addressing reports of alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria, Yusuff dismissed the claims, saying Christians and Muslims coexist peacefully across the country.
“President Tinubu has achieved a lot, and we must let people know this. In Nigeria, there is nothing like Christian genocide. Christians and Muslims are one and indivisible people who live peacefully. As Lagosians, we must demonstrate this unity, and other states will follow. That is why both Christian clerics and Muslim imams are here. We eat together and speak with one voice. We say no to bandits,” Yusuff said.
Also speaking, the Lagos Ambassador for the Renewed Hope Agenda and Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, aligned with Yusuff’s remarks and backed General Musa’s appointment as Defence Minister.
Ayinde noted that interfaith harmony has remained strong in Nigeria, with Christians and Muslims intermarrying and celebrating major festivities together. He urged Nigerians to continue supporting President Tinubu, adding that the inter-faith prayer session was meant to demonstrate religious unity to the international community.
“In Nigeria, Christians and Muslims are one family. We intermarry, we celebrate Christmas and Sallah together. We are happy that President Tinubu is not resting on his oars. He has appointed former CDS Gen. Christopher Musa as Defence Minister—the right peg in the right hole. With his vast experience, we believe he will work closely with the service chiefs, and very soon Nigerians will see the impact,” Ayinde said.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos and member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Cardinal James Odumbaku (Baba Eto), described Nigeria as an indivisible nation. He noted that the inter-faith prayer session was the second held in the state and expressed confidence that Tinubu would win re-election in 2027.
“We are going to vote for Tinubu in 2027. Tinubu will be on top,” Odumbaku said.
Special prayers were offered in both Christian and Muslim traditions as clerics took turns praying for President Tinubu and Nigeria’s peace and progress.
