LASU Matriculation: VC Reaffirms Zero Tolerance for Misconduct, Recognises Outstanding Lecturer
The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, has conferred a special award of appreciation on Dr. Samson Olusegun Oyefolu, a lecturer in the Department of Political Science, in recognition of his impactful contributions to the institution.
The award was presented during the matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session held at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
Addressing the 14,893 matriculating students, the Vice-Chancellor urged them to pursue excellence and uphold strong moral values as the foundation for their academic and professional journeys. She congratulated them for emerging successful out of more than 70,000 applicants, describing LASU as a “world-class university” committed to developing globally competitive leaders.
Professor Olatunji-Bello assured the new students of a safe and conducive learning environment and encouraged them to promptly report any concerns. She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to student welfare and security, emphasizing the institution’s zero-tolerance stance on all forms of misconduct, including cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, and sexual and gender-based violence.
In his remarks, Dr. Oyefolu of the Faculty of Social Sciences inspired the students with a motivational address. He encouraged them to harness their talents, cultivate resilience, and choose mentors wisely. He noted that true growth stems from self-awareness, preparation, and learning from failure, adding that “while talent opens doors, only character can keep them open.”
Also speaking, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, advised the fresh students to make the most of the academic opportunities available at LASU. He highlighted key habits for success, including effective time management, consistent class attendance, financial discipline, and a strong commitment to self-development, while cautioning them against antisocial behaviour.
