Ondo Govt Disburses ₦350 Million Bursary, Scholarship Funds To Indigenous Students

As part of efforts to ease the financial burden on students and their sponsors, the Ondo State Government has commenced the disbursement of over ₦350 million to indigenous students in tertiary institutions across the country.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held in Akure on Tuesday, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to educational advancement and human capital development. He described the initiative as a vital tool for rekindling the state’s education sector and motivating students to strive for excellence.

“Today’s bursary, scholarship, and financial assistance programme for 11,358 students is a demonstration of our government’s deep concern for their welfare,” Aiyedatiwa said. “We recognise the challenges many of our students face, and through this initiative, we are determined to ensure that no child of Ondo State is denied education due to financial hardship. This is also an intentional policy to ease the burden on parents whose children are in various tertiary institutions.”

The governor charged students to uphold the virtues of discipline, integrity, and hard work, while reiterating his administration’s commitment to building a robust education system that empowers and supports every learner.

Earlier in her remarks, the Administrative Secretary of the Ondo State Scholarship Board, Mrs. Funso Omoniyi, explained that the scheme is divided into five categories: scholarship awards for outstanding students, financial assistance for students in the Nigerian Law School, medical students in clinical training, and physically challenged students.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, disclosed that the government had approved and released funds for several education-related interventions, including the payment of WASSCE registration fees.

President of the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), Temitope Alade, commended the governor for his continued support of students and urged his colleagues to uphold good conduct in their respective institutions.
