LASU Partners UNDP, UniPod Africa To Train Staff, Students On Digital Innovation Tools
The Lagos State University (LASU) Innovation Hub has hosted representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UniPod Africa in a training session aimed at equipping staff and students with practical skills in the installation and use of world-class digital equipment, reaffirming the institution’s leadership in technology-driven education and creative innovation.
The training, held at the LASU Main Campus, Ojo, is part of the UNDP/UniPod Initiative designed to provide tertiary institutions with state-of-the-art creative and digital technology infrastructure. LASU joins seven other Nigerian universities benefiting from the programme.
Welcoming the UNDP team, the Manager of the LASU Innovation Hub, Professor Tunji Azeez, described the initiative as a transformative opportunity to expand the frontiers of innovation and skill-based learning at the university.
“The LASU Innovation Hub is designed to bring all creatives under one unit, a place where ideas are built, tested, and brought to life,” he said. “This collaboration with UNDP and UniPod strengthens our vision of making LASU a leading centre for digital innovation, research, and entrepreneurship.”
Professor Azeez also expressed deep appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi for her unwavering commitment to positioning LASU as a model of innovation and excellence.
He further acknowledged the support of the Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Adejoke Adefulire, and commended the UNDP for its consistent investment in youth-focused innovation across Nigeria.
The installation exercise was led by Engineer Tochukwu, who headed a three-man UNDP technical team responsible for setting up the equipment across all eight UniPod centres in Nigeria, with LASU as one of the key beneficiaries.
Students from various departments including Computer Science, Engineering, Theatre and Film Arts, Physics, and Mass Communication participated in the hands-on training, which also encouraged participants to share their knowledge with peers.
Core UniPod volunteers, comprising trained staff and students, will oversee the use and maintenance of the facilities while ensuring continuous training across faculties, reinforcing LASU’s commitment to sustainability, safety, and skill transfer.
