Lagos Safety Commission Denies Bribery Allegation, Disowns Impostor in Viral Video

The Lagos State Safety Commission has disowned a woman identified as Mariam Bunmi, who was seen in a viral video allegedly extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos, claiming to be an official of the agency.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Okoh Adewunmi, the Commission described the claims in the video as false and misleading, stressing that the suspect is not and has never been an employee of the Lagos State Safety Commission.

“The Commission hereby dissociates itself completely from this individual and her alleged actions. We wish to categorically state that the said Mariam Bunmi is unknown to the Commission in any capacity,” the statement read.

Mrs. Adewunmi reaffirmed that the Lagos State Safety Commission maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, extortion, or any unethical conduct, emphasizing that the agency’s mandate remains the protection of lives and property across the state.

She urged members of the public to disregard the viral video and remain vigilant against impostors posing as officials of the Commission, warning that no genuine staff member of the agency is authorized to demand or collect money from anyone.

The Commission also urged media platforms to verify claims and confirm official identities before publication to avoid spreading misinformation.

“For clarification or verification, members of the public are encouraged not to pay a dime to anyone parading as officials of the Lagos State Safety Commission but to report such cases through the agency’s official channels,” Adewunmi added.

She reiterated the Commission’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and public safety, assuring residents that the agency will continue to uphold integrity in all its operations.
