The governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo, has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Labour Party (LP) have no political presence in the state, boasting that his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), had humbled the opposition.
Speaking at a victory rally in Nanka to celebrate APGA’s triumph in Saturday’s by-elections, Soludo said the polls were positioned by 2023 presidential candidate of LP, Peter Obi and other opposition leaders as a popularity test, but the results showed otherwise.
“ADC does not exist in Anambra. We showed it on Saturday. The Labour Party is dead,” Soludo said.
The governor further mocked Obi by noting that APGA secured victory even in Onitsha North, which he described as the constituency of the former Labour Party presidential candidate, adding “That’s his state constituency; he lives in Onitsha”.
Highlighting the opposition’s collective push during the polls, Soludo stated, “All of them came. The senator representing the zone came. The senator representing Anambra Central threw himself into the ring. Members of the House of Representatives threw themselves into the ring. It looked like this was an allied force. Who were they coming against? The people. But the people of Anambra spoke.”
He maintained that the election was intended as a test run for what he called “the new concoction called ADC in Anambra”, stressing that the emphatic victory recorded by APGA, with about 77 per cent of the vote, sent a clear message.
“The signal we sent was that both ADC and Labour Party are dead in Anambra,” Soludo declared.
