President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Katsina State ahead of the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London at the age of 82.

The President touched down at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

He was received by a large crowd of delegates and senior political dignitaries, including federal and state officials.

The visit comes as part of the Federal Government’s preparations for a full state burial for the late former president.

On Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced that President Tinubu would personally receive Buhari’s remains upon their return to Nigeria.

The body of the former president departed London, United Kingdom, on Tuesday morning aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, en route to Daura, his hometown in Katsina State, where he will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites later today.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985, and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023. He died after a prolonged illness while receiving medical care in a London clinic.

The Federal Government has constituted a presidential committee to oversee the funeral arrangements and ensure a dignified farewell for the late statesman.
