Power Commissioners Advocate Collaboration Between FG, Private Sectors, International Partners To End Incessant National Grid Collapse
The Forum of Commissioners of Power and Energy has called on the federal government, private investors, and international partners to join forces in delivering sustainable and resilient power sector.
The Power Commissioners raised an alarm over the country’s frequent grid collapses, calling for an urgent action to transform Nigeria’s electricity landscape.
Chairman of the Forum, Prince Eka Williams, who is also the Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, described the recurring collapses as a national crisis, disrupting lives and businesses with devastating economic and social impacts.
The Commissioners pushed for state-driven solutions, including the establishment of state electricity markets to decentralize power generation, transmission, and distribution.
They argued that the approach would cater to the unique energy needs of individual states.
The Commissioners also advocated for stronger, localized grid systems to reduce dependence on the national grid, alongside federal investments in modern grid technologies to stabilize operations.
