Protesters Storm Lagos Street As Nigeria Celebrates Democracy Day

 

Some protesters, on Wednesday morning, stormed the Ikeja Underbridge in Lagos over the State of the Nation.

The protesters who were chanting different solidarity songs, carried placards with inscriptions like “President Tinubu, let the poor breathe’, ‘For another general strike with mass protest now’, ‘Payment of living wage to all Nigerian workers now.”

The protest is coming at a time the country marks the 2024 Democracy Day.

Although, there was a heavy security presence, as policemen and officials of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps were sighted at the venue and also guiding the protesters as they walk down to the Lagos Government House in Alausa, Ikeja.

Some civil society groups, including the Take It Back Movement, the Education Rights Campaign, the Coalition for Revolution and the Socialist Workers League, are spearheading the protest.
