Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, has called for sustained reforms and stronger collaboration among stakeholders to build a justice system capable of supporting investment and economic growth.
Pedro made the call at the 2026/2027 Legal Year Summit in Lekki, Lagos, themed, “Justice as an Economic Infrastructure: Strengthening the Judiciary for Africa’s Fifth Largest Economy.”
He said an efficient justice system was critical to protecting property rights, enforcing contracts, resolving disputes and boosting investor confidence.
The Attorney-General called for improved judicial infrastructure, human capital development and greater adoption of technology, including e-filing, digital case management and virtual proceedings, to reduce delays and enhance access to justice.
He also urged lawyers to develop expertise in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, intellectual property and digital transactions, while promoting mediation, arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
Pedro further called for stronger collaboration among the Judiciary, Executive, Legislature, legal profession and business community, urging stakeholders to translate the summit’s deliberations into practical reforms that would strengthen Lagos’ justice system and support sustainable economic development.
