Maduka Okoye finally arrived at the Super Eagles’ camp in Uyo on Friday morning, hours before Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash with Madagascar.
The Super Eagles’ camp opened on Monday, with almost the full squad beginning training on Tuesday, but the Udinese goalkeeper was absent.
It was learnt that Udinese had earlier obtained permission from Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle for Okoye to attend a special club event in Milan.
The event was a modelling showcase, where Okoye displayed another side of his talent while wearing Udinese’s official jersey.
Chelle said at Thursday’s media briefing that he expected Okoye to arrive earlier, suggesting that his late arrival on match day could affect his chances of featuring against Madagascar.
Stanley Nwabali is therefore expected to start in goal for the Super Eagles against the Barea of Madagascar when the match kicks off at 5 p.m. on Friday.
